DEVELOPMENTS IN NEPAL There is good news in Nepal, the violence which has troubled the country for more than 10 ten has lessened markedly with the new parliament and planned elections. The maoist insurgency between 1990 until the maoists were brought into government in 2007 cost 13,000 lives in the Kingdom. The massacre of the royal family in 2001 and the subsequent rule of the new King, Gyanendra, led to increasing popular dissatisfaction with the monarchy and following the 3 week general strike in April 2006, parliament was recalled with support from all political parties and power has passed from the King to parliament.
