Alexander Ewart was a volunteer teacher at Janabikas Government Secondary School, Chandi Danda, Besisahar, Lamjung Province, Nepal, from October 2003 until January 2004. After leaving the Royal Grammar School, Guildford, in July 2003, Alex was on his gap year before going to Nottingham University. Alex had been a member of St John the Baptist Church, Wonersh since his early teens: as a Pathfinder, member of After Eights, and an assistant youth leader at Porthpean Christian Camps. Alex died aged 18, in a fluke rafting accident in Nepal in January 2004.

Alex was a committed Christian, he had seized and explored life to the fullest. A life of commitment and love, for his family, friends and his loving God.

ALEX'S FUND was set up to fulfill his wish to do something to support the schools in Nepal where he had been a volunteer teacher. Alex had spent nearly four months as a volunteer teacher in Besisahar, Lamjung Province, a large village some 120Km north west of Kathmandu, in the foothills of the Annapurna range of the Himalayas.
